Document fingerprint checker

Have you been handed an expert report or a piece of evidence and want to know whether it is the same file the expert added to their case file? Drop it here. If it matches the one on record, you will see when it was added and which expert holds it.

The document you want to checkAny format: PDF, Word, photos, video… The file never leaves your computer.

or, if you already have the fingerprint

The fingerprint proves the file's integrity: that not a single bit has changed since it was added to the case file or since the report was delivered. On its own it does not prove authenticity or the truth of its content. Only the date, the document type, the case reference and the expert or firm holding it are shown: not the file name, the parties or the content.

How it works

  • When an expert adds a document to their case file, Gest Peritia works out its SHA-256 fingerprint: a 64-character string that only that exact file produces.
  • If a single comma, pixel or piece of metadata changes, the fingerprint is completely different. That is why two files with the same fingerprint are the same file.
  • Here your browser works out the fingerprint of the file you have and compares it with the ones on record. The file does not travel to any server: only the fingerprint does.
  • The fingerprint also appears in the chain of custody record the expert produces, so you can check it without having the original file.
  • If the expert has marked their report as delivered in Gest Peritia, the fingerprint they hand over with it identifies that exact version: it is checked here the same way, without a file.

Your documents, with their fingerprint from day one

In Gest Peritia every document in the case file keeps its fingerprint and its chain of custody record. Anyone can check it here.
