Gest Peritia user guide
Getting started
To start working with Gest Peritia you need an account, and you do not have to remember any password. Enter your email address on the sign-in screen: you will receive a message with a link to go straight in, and a six-digit code in case you prefer to type it. The account is created automatically the first time you sign in.
Once inside, take a few minutes to complete your professional profile under Settings. This step matters: the profile details auto-fill the heading and the signature of every writing the application produces.
In short, three steps and you are ready:
- Enter your email on the sign-in screen and go in with the link or the code you receive; the account is created automatically.
- Complete your professional profile under Settings.
- Create your first case file and start working.
Changing the language
Gest Peritia is available in Spanish, Catalan and English. The first time you open it, the application detects your system language and shows itself in that language.
If you prefer another one, use the language selector. Your choice is remembered for future sessions.
The Dashboard
The Dashboard is the home screen and gives you an overview of your expert-witness activity at a glance:
- Active case files: the matters you have in progress.
- Open deadlines: the closest pending due dates.
- Advance payments receivable: the amounts of the advances on fees requested and not yet collected.
Case files
Case files are the core of the application: each expert-witness engagement is managed from its own record.
To create a case file, state the origin of the engagement (court appointment or instructed by a party), the subject matter, the object of the expert examination, the court and the client.
Each case file moves through the stages of the expert-witness cycle, from appointment to payment, so you always know where every matter stands.
The case file record brings together all the information on the case:
- Parties to the proceedings.
- Deadlines linked to the case file.
- Finances: fees, advance requested and advance collected.
- Working notes.
Producing court writings
The writings generator lets you produce the usual documents of expert-witness practice in a few minutes. The process is always the same:
- Choose the case file you want to work on.
- Select a template from the catalogue of 28 models: acceptance of the appointment, abstention, advance on fees, extensions, fees and legal aid, among others.
- The fields are auto-filled with the details of the case file and of your professional profile.
- Review and edit the text: the last word is always yours.
- Save the writing, download it in Word or print it to PDF.
Calendar
The Calendar brings together every deadline of every case file, sorted by urgency. From the Calendar itself you can mark each deadline as completed once you have taken the corresponding step:
- Overdue: deadlines already past that need immediate attention.
- This week: due dates in the coming days.
- Later on: the rest of the future deadlines.
Expert reports
The reports module guides you through drafting the expert report with a structure that follows the Spanish Civil Procedure Act, including the statement of objectivity required by article 335.2 LEC.
You can edit each part, reorder the parts to suit the case and, once the report is ready, export it to Word or PDF.
Templates
The Templates section is a reference library with the 28 available models of court writings, in both Spanish and Catalan. Use it to get to know the catalogue and decide which model fits each procedural step.
Settings
Settings is where you configure the expert's professional profile, whose details are added automatically to the writings and the reports:
- Identity and contact details.
- Professional association or body and membership number.
- Professional address.
- IBAN for collecting advances and fees.
- Areas of expertise.
Important reminders
Before you finish, two essential recommendations:
- Always review the writings and the reports before filing them. Gest Peritia organises and drafts documents, but it does not provide legal advice: responsibility for the final content always lies with the expert.
- Your data is stored on your own machine, in a local database. Back up the data file regularly to avoid losing information.
